Hasty Irregular Patchwork Bomber

I'm working on a slightly more involved irregular, multi-texture patchwork bomber jacket, and not feeling the most enthusiastic about it.  On Sunday, I decided that I wanted to use some large knit remnants--that I'd already decided would work together well for something--to make a quicker irregular patchwork bomber jacket for a friend I'd be seeing on Tuesday.

I finished it Monday night!

It is cheerful and silly and meant to wear like a layer of blanket.  And it used a nice little amount of bulky fabric bits!

Every fabric on the exterior is a bit left from some other project: a cardigan, a cardigan, a cardigan, a skirt made from another skirt, and a sweatshirt.

The facing fabric is something that I'm pretty sure came from a thrift cloth grab bag.

I used Stretch & Sew 1027, shortened and modified to have a zipper closure, then modified back to being like the actual pattern again, and with pockets omitted, because it's not terribly comfortable to put hands in pockets of jackets this short.

This pattern does not have pieces for the cuff and waist bands, instead giving tables of dimensions to cut things for various sizes.  I mostly followed them.

I always feel like older patterns with ribbing bands want the ribbing cut as short as possible, to just barely stretch enough to fit the end it's to be sewn to, so I tend to cut a little extra (when I remember.)

I did wait to piece the back last, because I felt like it would be easier to work around potential fabric shortages on the back than on the sleeves.

I did manage to use up just about all of the floral print and green fabrics (as well as the yellow ribbing.)

I sewed the facing to the shell with another rectangle of stitching, like I did with the controller cardigan.  This time I cut a bit of a fabric print to sew in, for a fake label look.

It's left over from the scientist shirt, and I did secure it with fusible webbing before stitching.  I just think it's a silly fun way to get the facings under control, and the "label stitched visibly from the outside" is a detail I remember from clothes, sometimes, when I was a kid.

My friend reports that this jacket made a nice extra layer for the frosty chill this morning.
