The Black Twill A-Line Skirt I've Meant to Make for Years

When the quick'n'easy skirt in my previous post did not live up to my expectations for coordination, I decided to finally make the basic black skirt I've wanted in my wardrobe for years.

Of course, an all-black twill skirt doesn't photograph nearly as well as all the cat hair and lint stuck to it do.

Quick Skirt...uh...Checkerboard Lovecore?

I thought the pink T-shirt in the previous post and the red/gray/black plaid jacket from the post before that coordinated nicely, so thought I'd make a skirt to go with them.  Turns out this is not a skirt that goes with them, but it is something I've been thinking of making for a while--well, thinking of combining these prints, at least

Two Pink Shirts

So, last time I went to the craft thrift store, I grabbed a few yards of a bright pink knit, figuring I could make a few shirts from it.  Fabric there is sold per pound, so it wasn't measured, and I could tell there was a lot there so I didn't unfold it, either.  Cue the feeling of BETRAYAL when I got home and discovered it was not contiguous yardage, but, instead, five two-yard strips of roughly 10" wide each.

After accepting that what I had was what I had, I realized I could just...piece the fabric to make it wide enough for the front and back.  I considered getting fancy--exposed seams, adding extra seams, more and more piecing, to make it look Designed.  I realized, though, that there was still some resentment about the BETRAYAL, and that meant I didn't want to work with the fabric that much.  Simple center seams it would be.

I used New Look 6068 with Kwik Sew 303's sleeves again.  I finally traced 303's sleeve pattern, to keep with 6068, too.  The "rough" part of "roughly 10" wide" meant there were areas wide enough to cut sleeves as one piece, in both long and short lengths.  I also went with one scoop neck and one crew neck.

Varsity Plaid

I suspect this is something Teenage Me would have adored.

Tweedy Sheath

I've been wanting to make a basic black sheath skirt for a while (not as long as the last basic black skirt I made.)

This is not it.

But! It is one step closer to it, because I'm still trying to figure out what size skirt I really should make.  I want to be able to wear pattern size 16, but my current abdomen prevents that. (I mean, my hips wouldn't be too cooperative with it, either, but there's leeway, depending on the style.)  Could I wear pattern size 18?  Possibly!  But I overcorrected and went with size 20 for this.  I will say: it fits with great ease.

And it is cute.

Cats and Owls and Jack o'Lanterns in Shirt Form

I bought a particular Halloween print from Joann years ago with the idea from the start to make a short sleeve buttoned shirt, and I finally figured I had the pattern and practice to do it justice.

I was right!

Oh, Look: Another Carbuncle

I had thought I was finished making Madou Monogatori / Puyo Puyo Carbuncle plushes, but then I saw this post and said...oooh.  That's a Very Good Carbuncle Shape.

I sketched it immediately, then had it it in the back of my mind for a while, and impulsively made it yesterday, using the last bits of fleece from a previous Carbuncle attempt.

And, yes, once again, there was no pattern involved.

He is, as the kids say, scrunkly.

Sheet to the Mend

Well, not actually mended--Husband does not like the feeling of patches on fitted sheets, so when a hole appeared in a fitted sheet recently, we bought a brand new (relatively) low cost all cotton sheet set, since I don't go a'thriftin' as much as I used to, and, when I do go, there's noticeably less of the kinds of things I want, including 100% cotton sheet sets.

That still gave us two sets of sheets to rotate...until I washed the other set and, oh, look: a hole.  That brought us to at least five flat sheets no longer accompanied by matching fitted sheets, so I decided to see if a flat sheet is big enough to turn into a fitted sheet.  It is!

I laid a sheet out on the bed, making it hang over each edge as evenly as possible, and pinned the corners.  Machine stitch along the pin line, then cut off the excess with the serger, and thank my past self for buying that 144 yard spool of ½" knit elastic from Wawak.  I zigzagged the elastic around the short ends and it fits the bed fine.

Granted, the sheet chosen is rather threadbare around the edges, so may not last too long in its new position, but it's fine--we have a  few more to spare.

(I have also sewn a simple buttoned shirt, but have not yet taken photos.)

Doll Dresses x 10

I made these for sale (haven't officially made a public sales post yet, though)

I used my old Blythe-size pattern pieces, which makes a dress that fits a surprising number of dolls these days

And, yes, definitely looking forward to Halloween Season already
