Return to Shirt

It has not been quite as long since I made a shirt for me as it has been since I made a skirt like I posted yesterday, but it has been a while since I made a shirt for me from McCall's 5675 (1977)

...now...I am currently nowhere near a size 12, but I realized that, since one of the features of this pattern is the gathered neckline, it would probably work out perfectly fine if I just...added two inches to the centers front and back, increasing things 4" total.  I did that on the fly, by using a see-through ruler to move the pattern center an inch from the fold on both sides.  (Also pictured: why get proper pattern weights when you have so many extra pairs of scissors anyway?)

And it worked!

The Free 3-Seam Lekala Skirt

I got it a while ago and have no idea how my measurements now compare to my measurements then, but I still have a very protuberant abdomen (see: diastasis recti) so thought, enh, why not give it a try.  I added seam allowance by setting a drawing compass to a 5/8" width and dragging the point around on the pattern lines to draw a parallel seam allowance line, as well as assembled and cut everything out, not long after getting the pattern, so it was ready to go

Of course, my actual waist measurement meant the resulting skirt didn't really look like my rough sketch

Hostess Gift #2

 This was made to hold several other gifts, actually...

Hostess Gift

 So I visited a friend today--both of us fully vaccinated, surrounded by tiny dogs and a large fluffy cat--and I prepared a hostess gift, although this probably would technically qualify as a Bad Hostess Gift, because Proper Hostess Gifts don't involve asking for chest measurements

Anyway.

 So, to no-one's surprise, that "wait I cut out pieces for how many doll clothes???" project kinda deflated any inclinations to sew anything for a while.

However, about two weeks ago, I was overtaken with the urge to do that 'maybe not technically hand sewing (but it does use a needle and thread)' thing that I generally so dislike, and have learned to lean into the urge when it strikes: I did a doll reroot.

and when that was finished, I...did another one

then another one

and then one more

and that one made me want to sew that ace flag-inspired dress (Happy Pride!)

So now I'm pretty sure the reroot urge has abated to its normal level (which is "no.")  Can't yet say if the desire to sew is back in general, but I am thinking about it.

Oh hey I finished the doll clothes

 The doll clothes that I cut out in March and posted this picture while I was in the process of cutting them out

and then I kept cutting things randomly and didn't pay attention to how many little garments I had cut out

so that when I started sewing

and sewing

and sewing

and sewing

I then started to get really frustrated with how long it was taking to sew everything.

When there weren't that many things left to sew, I finally had the thought to count everything.

There were over 60 pieces. 

So.

Oh.

That's why it was taking so long.

Well OK then.  I stopped feeling so bad about it taking a month and a half to sew everything.

A lot of these will go up for sale soon

and a lot of these will be given to friends or kept for myself

(and some--not in these pictures-- have already been put on dolls or given away)

Next time I decide to cut out a big stack of random doll clothes to use up odds'n'ends of fabric (and of course there will be a next time, this is something I've been doing sporadically for about 15 years already), I will try very hard to keep the stack...smaller
