Apple Hat

I am nearing the end of the apple fabric, but not there yet.  The remaining pieces are not large enough to cut parts for clothing--well, not for human-size clothing, I did make a(n as yet unphotographed) sweatshirt for a larger doll--but there are accessory possibilities.

So I made a beret.

There's nothing challenging to making this kind of beret: trace around the largest plate we have, cut two layers, cut the center from one side using a lid from a cardboard oatmeal canister, repeat for the lining, figure out how long to cut a strip to be the band, sew them all together. 

There was enough of the NYC stretch silk left to make the lining, and I was even able to place the doorman in the most unsettling prominent spot.

It's actually a bit smaller in diameter than I like, but I was limited by the remaining contiguous fabric.  I considered making a newsboy hat, but I'm not always happy with how the pattern I have turns out, and that would have been a lot more work for potential disappointment, so a beret it is.

And, so, I get marginally closer to using up all of the apple print.

Day of Quick Projects

 So, for reasons unknown, yesterday the small pile of odds'n'ends sewing projects and random fabrics flipped over from being an ignored part of the background clutter to being something I needed to deal with as fast as possible.

Stripe Knit Shirt in Blue (and other colors)

 I can resist most of the fabrics that show up in the mill-end pre-cut bins at Walmart, but not all of the fabrics that show up in the mill-end pre-cut bins at Walmart.  The main saving factor is my dislike of wearing synthetics, but that...can be overridden by the cloth being really really cool...

So I bought a 2 yard for $4 roll of very probably synthetic knit in an interesting stripe (and texture, although that texture is on the purl side and I can never think of that as the face of a knit, so...just stripe) in shades of dark blue and burgundy and cream and black.

And when I took off the label and unrolled it, I discovered that there was only one yard.  Even at 60" wide, that still severely limited my project options.  I decided, yesterday afternoon, to figure out what to do with it, and turned to a pattern I've had for a long time--so long that it's been partly cut in a very small size: New Look 6068 (and...I had honestly forgotten that I'd used it for projects a few years ago).  But!  Not all of the views use the same basic bodice pieces, and the mixn'n'matchin' was obvious
