This is for a friend who likes Halloween
Well, initially, it looked like this
I made it yesterday evening, to give the friend today (I had originally planned to bake something, but decided I'd rather sew something instead.) I was in such a rush that I didn't notice, until it was 'finished', how badly-sewn the nose triangle was. The friend contacted me this morning with apologies about not being able to get together today. That's perfectly fine--and! It gave me a chance to pick things apart just enough to fix the nose.
I might not have fixed it if it was something I was keeping--the patchwork cat jacket certainly has a lot of mis-aligned points, but, one, it's mine so it's fine, and, two, there are so many that the inaccuracies are hard to pinpoint. I also used smaller dies for the jacket--this project was a bit of an experiment to see if I could use any three square dies, in 5mm step size differences, to make the pieces for this block. I used the three largest dies--largest got cut into four triangles to make the eyes and nose, middle was cut into half square triangles, and the smallest made the full squares. It seems to have worked.
This also gave me a chance to play around a little with the idea I'd had to make black cats interspersed with Halloween prints. I kept the print the same above and below the cat because I was just making the one patch, which is what I did the first time I ever tried making it, too.
The back is a solid piece of a sparkly autumn squash and sunflower print
I chose the zipper to coordinate with the back fabric.
