Well. Don't like it.

The bodice is Simplicity 9153, which I've used many times (I'm wearing a dress made with it now), and I like the individual fabrics, and I like the way they combine when next to each other, but, overall...no. It's incredibly Not Me.

I ripped all the squares at 9" x 9" and sewed everything with ½" seam allowances, so the resulting squares are 8" x 8"

And I really do like the way the fabrics look next to each other, when looking close

It's just that, when I back up and observe it all at once...no.

And, even though I did stay stitch it, I'm not sure the neck bias binding ended up...symmetrical.

I also initially overestimated how many squares I'd need, and scrounged a lot of fabrics I wasn't happy with to make enough, including a lot of fabrics of which there was only enough to cut one square the right size, so I made sure to use one of those on the bodice.  Then I realized my error, and that I could make the skirt bigger than I'd originally thought while simultaneously eliminating all of the remaining single occurrence fabrics...except that one already sewn into the bodice.

I started by making the skirt three tiers, then looked at how many prepared squares I still had, and how many pieces of fabric I'd set aside thinking I wouldn't use up all of them (or too much of them, from fabrics I have yards of), and decided to rip enough squares to add to the remaining squares to make one more tier.

I'm not sure why I thought that adding more fabric I didn't really like combined together would make it better.  It didn't.

I decided it would be fine to piece one last square of the green and blue check print, because there were large sections left that had been cut into to make the bias for this and the other dress.

Are my explanations not making a lot of sense?  That would be because I'm so unhappy with this project that I don't feel like making the effort to be coherent.

Hey, look: pockets.

I did serge all of the patchwork seams, and used the large hem roller to sew the hem.

The hem turned out to be nearly 5 yards long, so the dress has dramatic swoosh.

I'm considering my options for what to do with it, because I certainly don't want to wear it.
