3263: The Destination (for now)

So, when I made the button up shirt with the madras and doll print, I was hoping I'd have enough of the doll print left to eke out a hacked Burda 7831, but, no.  I almost set the last piece of the doll print aside for patchwork, but then, no.  I still really wanted a simple little shirt made from it, something I could wear under a cardigan.  (Why was the vision of a cardigan so strong?  Dunno.  But it was.)  And that's what prompted me to figure out fit adjustments for Simplicity 3263.

Although...there still technically wasn't enough of the doll print left, so I shortened it by 3½"

 It works.

The print gobbles up the darts.  I ask myself if it's worth the effort of marking the two sets of front waist darts if they're not going to be obvious, but, eh, they're fun (once they're marked.)

I finally started using tailor's tacks to mark the darts, connecting them with chalk along a ruler.  They're not perfect, because I'm not trying for perfection.

I once again stay stitched the facing edges and omitted interfacing.  The pattern doesn't call for interfacing, but it doesn't have an all-in-one facing, either.  I'll probably use interfacing when I do the view with the collar (the pattern doesn't call for interfacing in the collar, either.  For shame.)

Still not great with a lapped zipper, but I have a pretty good idea when I'm making the mistakes that will have to be picked out and re-sewn.  That's a step toward not making them, right?

You can see where I had to re-sew a small area, where the fabric had managed to fold itself and get stitched through where it shouldn't.  The lap hides it.

And the back.  I don't think this version is quite long enough to tuck in securely, but it should sit politely over a waistband.

And these dolls look very polite, right?
